I believe therapy works best when there is a balance of acceptance and support with challenge. There is undoubtedly something healing and transformative about being seen, heard and understood. Therapy also involves gentle nudges to help you venture out of your comfort zones and experiment with new ways of being, feeling and communicating.
I never cease to be amazed by the subtlety, depth and power of the therapeutic process and deeply enjoy my work with each unique individual and couple that I see. I feel honored to be a part of my clients’ process of healing and creating a more peaceful, loving and fulfilling life. As a therapist, I have been described as warm, compassionate and insightful. I have specialized training and experience treating relationship and intimacy issues, addiction, crisis and trauma and depression and anxiety.
In my psychotherapy practice I see couples as well as adults and adolescents (14+) for individual therapy. My clients have ranged from students, professors, health professionals, new mothers, artists, combat veterans, adult entertainers and the homeless. While many of the people I see for therapy are functioning well in parts of their lives, they privately struggle with inner turmoil, self defeating behaviors and difficult patterns in relationships. Many identify as being different in some way, such as their cultural identity, socioeconomic status, gender identity, sexual orientation or physical ability.I have practiced psychotherapy in a number of settings, which include university counseling centers, residential drug and alcohol treatment facilities, the Department of Veterans Affairs and community mental health. I am currently completing a two-year advanced training fellowship with Pine River Psychotherapy Associates.
